DOGGING

The scope of works a licensed Dogman can perform:

• Selection and inspection of lifting gear
• Application of slinging techniques
• Directing the crane or hoist operator in the movement of loads

There are no course prerequisites for the Dogman licence, however applicants must be eighteen years of age and have a level of fitness that allows them to perform manual handling tasks.

Course Outline:

This is a three day course, including theory and practicle training.

Learning outcomes include:

• Application of Working Load Limit formulas for lifting chain, wire rope, natural and synthetic ropes
• Application of load factors and reeve factors
• Inspection and identification of defective lifting gear
• Various knots and hitches (refer to the assessment instrument)
• Reading crane load charts
• Correct method of working with cranes
• Safe slinging techniques
• Whistle, hand and radio signals for working with cranes
